Established in 1995 by Nick Sacoulas, Progressive Martial Arts has developed into one of the premier martial arts schools serving the NY Metropolitan area. This university-type setting offers COMPLETE programs in Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Filipino Kali with over 70 CLASSES PER WEEK!
Alongside their learning of the martial arts, students of PMA also gain self-confidence, self-discipline, healthier lifestyles and effective self-defense skills as a result of their training.
Students enter the school through Foundations 101 and can choose between grappling and striking or both. This phase of training is of paramount importance as it lays the groundwork for our higher level programs. Foundations 101 focuses on physical fitness and the development of strong fundamentals.
Students who have successfully completed the Foundations 101 program are invited into the Combat Athlete Program (CAP). Here is where students can specialize and focus in one discipline or cross train among 25 classes per week.
Our Combat Athlete Program is designed for the serious martial artist with their specific goals in mind. Whether your goals are to take your training to the next level, develop ultimate fitness, develop ultimate self-defense, or competition, the CAP program can serve your needs.
PMA Youth Program offers an age-specific program, starting at age 3. As an age-specific program, classes are divided into age groups that meet each child’s developmental, physical, social and emotional needs. Children ages 3 and 4 years old are taught fundamental skills such as listening, structure, discipline, balance, strength, and coordination. At 5 and 6, the youth then further develop their skill set to include increased focus, self-awareness, leadership skills, confidence, and self-defense. At 7 – 9 years of age, students are increasing their self-defense skills, physical fitness capabilities, and confidence making them bully proof for their middle school years. And at 10 – 15 years of age, students are being molded into the leaders of communities while engaging in a full mixed martial arts curriculum.
Our character development program, developed by leading child development psychologist and expert, Dr. Robyn Silverman, is the backbone of our youth program and a necessary backdrop for teaching children discipline, respect, confidence, and leadership.
